Arts in Education intro paragraph…

School Performances

Throughout the year, performing arts organization in Fairbanks offer a wide range of cultural offering to the community. To foster a sense of art participation in even the youngest, Fairbanks Arts’ School Performances bring together organizations and schools.

Every year, local performing arts organizations propose to show parts of their own programming to students of appropriate age in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District as part of Fairbanks Arts’ School Performances. When approved by the appropriate Fairbanks Arts committee, these shows feature segments of entire productions that are shortened to fit a 50 minutes-long time frame. School Performances are a great way for students of all ages to participate in the performing arts and learn more about theater productions, orchestras and everything involved. During the performance, students do not simply view the adapted performance but they learn through interaction. Teachers are invited to bring their students for a small fee with transportation to the venue provided by us.

Artists in Schools Program

Fairbanks Arts matches artists to schools for several weeks of artistic residency in the Artists in Schools (AIS) Program within the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. Twenty to thirty weeks of residency are offered throughout the academic year. AIS residencies are active studies that span traditional and contemporary art forms including music, dance, traditional Alaska Native art, media and digital arts, visual arts, literary art, and drama.
