Fairbanks area artists- it is time to register!
The Teaching Artist Training Academy happens twice a year, and the spring session dates are almost here! If you are a visual, performing, literary or musical artist who would like to be eligible to teach as an artist in residence at schools within the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, call Jess at 456-6485 ext. 226 to register for these sessions. A $50 registration fee is required and can be paid over the phone or in person at the first training session.

Thursday, May 9, 5-8 PM in Room 426 of FNSBSD Admin. Center (520 5th Ave.)
Tuesday, May 14, 5-8 PM in the Bear Gallery, 3rd floor of the Alaska Centennial Center for the Arts, Pioneer Park (2300 Airport Way)
Thursday, May 16, 5-8 PM in the Bear Gallery
*All four sessions must be attended in order to receive certification

About the Teaching Artist Training Academy
* Professional development for area artists to qualify for Alaska State Teaching Artist status. This will be a lively and informative series of hands-on presentations by expert teachers and administrators who will share knowledge skills and techniques. A certificate will be awarded on completion of the 12 hours of coursework to equip you to work effectively in Fairbanks classrooms and beyond.
*Advice on how to negotiate contracts, market yourself and how to join the Alaska Teaching Roster of the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
*Dialogue and community building among local artists and educators about teaching in and through the arts.
Topics to be discussed will include: Application process, importance of residencies, Alaska State standards, FNSBSD Arts, developmental levels, differentiated learning, classroom management strategies, collaboration for successful residencies, and the business of being a teaching artist.
